We Need You!! St Albans Half Marathon!
On Sunday 11th June, St Albans will host its 41st annual Half Marathon, including the 5K race and the ever popular 1.5mile Fun Run for under 12’s, as well as walking and wheelchair half marathons.
Most of the event is staffed by volunteers drawn from local schools, community groups and charities who are posted at various ‘stations’ around the course, and St Columba’s College has again this year been asked to staff the Medals Station, which is within a hundred metres of the school. We will also accommodate 120+ car parking spaces at the school with donations going to our sister school as part of Project Respond in Zambia.
Our main duty is to distribute the correct medals to participants at the finish line on race day and, if we have a surplus of volunteers, to help hand out goodie bags which are located just behind the medals. This is a very significant station as, being the finish line, it’s the station that gets the most attention. It is also the busiest and the most fun!
We are looking for Columban families to volunteer for the Medals Station on race day, although we would especially like to see Prep 6 and Form 1 families at the event. It is a great way to meet other parents and to get involved in the excitement of the Half Marathon races.

The Family Fun Run is open to all ages however children under eight must be accompanied by an adult with their own ticket. Please note the Family Fun Run is not chip timed. The marshals will cheer them on and entertain them with their fancy dress the whole way round, and there is even a free ice lolly at the finish line. Please remember to state that your children are participating for St Columba’s College as there is a prize for the school with the most entrants, and a further prize for the school with the largest increase in participating numbers.
