Work With Us
Thank you for your interest in St Columba’s College.
Thank you for interest in St Columba’s. I hope you will gather a flavour of the environment and atmosphere of the College from the information provided about the Prep and Senior Schools. Please explore our website and perhaps read our latest ISI inspection report.
St Columba’s College sits adjacent to the historic Roman city of St Albans, and the school has panoramic views of St Albans Abbey and Cathedral church. We are all incredibly proud of our stunning surroundings and historical setting in Hertfordshire.
However, what I believe makes this school a special place to work in is its community and its students. I am constantly struck by our pupils’ spark and zest for life. They are incredibly proud to be Columbans and their energy not only drives what we do but is also highly infectious. They remain academically motivated to achieve of their best. The wider breadth and depth of opportunity available to the students is impressive, Over their time with us, it is a joy to watch their confidence grow as they fully embrace the many experiences the school has to offer. Equally important, our pupils are kind, thoughtful and compassionate young people who embrace the 3Cs of Courage, Courtesy and Compassion and who are committed to their own personal growth through our unique Student Formation Programme.
What else can you expect if you were to join St Columba’s? Well, we absolutely value our staff. Good teachers and support staff are even most crucial in making a school a happy, efficient and effective workplace. We firmly believe in giving all our colleagues opportunities to develop their careers within the school in which mutual respect and collegiality are key drivers.
St Columba’s has a strong family ethos and you would be made to feel welcome very quickly. Our school is also part of a wider, extended family of schools run by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in over 30 different countries worldwide. These links provide us with opportunities for partnerships, service activities and exchange programmes. Education at St Columba’s never stands still, and you would be joining the school at an exciting time and we want all the team to get involved in helping to shape and deliver our vision going forward. In a highly competitive market, St Columba’s is thriving. The College is transitioning from an all-boys establishment to one that is co-educational, and currently has girls in the Prep school, a small number in Form 1 (yr7) and Form 2 (Yr8) in the senior and with a significant cohort in Lower and Upper Sixth totalling around sixty in all
The number of applications for both sexes was healthy for 2023 with fifty places made available for external candidates, about 90 % of pupils transferring from Prep 6 (yr6) to Form 1. Our hope is that those who enter the College will remain with us until 18.
We aim to provide an educational environment which will motivate and captivate students so that they develop a love of learning and enquiry, becoming truly independent learners who take control of their educational pathways. Individuals are encouraged to regard challenge as healthy and something to manage and control rather than something to prevent growth.
