Once a Columban, always a Columban

St Columba’s College has a thriving and energetic network of former students, parents and staff members all of whom are committed to the continuing support of individuals as they complete their education at the College but more so by strong connections which form life-long bonds. Each  year group will have its own identity and friendships groups that have been formed over time and to their credit they regularly meet independently as they continue those relationships into the future. Many develop fuller connections with those families they have known since entry to the College, attending marriages, other family occasions and going on joint holidays together to mention but a few elements.  Those bonds are to be encouraged.

However, the network that is the Columban family extends beyond with direct support of initiatives within the College on an on-going basis such as work placements, careers talks as well as individual career advice, and more widely engaging connections through lectures and apprenticeship schemes. More broadly, the network opens out other opportunities for support in the working world as a form of linked-in in its own right where professional groups meet and exchange their ideas, expertise and support of Columban’s at all stages of their careers as they develop levels of responsibility in management and leadership roles to which the majority progress in some discipline.

These meetings provide an opportunity to socialise, to share practice, and to cement the nature of St Columba’s College as a life supporting group.

There is also a social dynamic attached to all of this with events such as City Drinks, gatherings in St Albans, Leavers drinks post, the over 65s lunch, Columban Community Dinners, Alumni dinners, where anniversaries of certain year groups are celebrated as part of a general invitation – all these form a diet of engagement and connection. There are also the significant annual St Columba’s College events such as the Columban Fayre and the Service of Carols and Lessons at the Abbey. Many charitable activities are also part of the psyche of the Columban’s and fund-raising events for numerous good causes take place annually.

Connection is the key.

Empowering the Future of St. Columba’s College.

The Alumni & Development initiative serves as a catalyst for progress, enabling us to raise crucial funds and secure donations that directly contribute to the ongoing improvement of our school. These vital resources empower us to enhance educational facilities, implement innovative programs, and provide opportunities that will shape the lives of our students for years to come.

One of the key areas of focus for our Development program is the establishment and support of bursaries. We believe that every deserving student should have access to a high-quality education, regardless of their financial circumstances. Through generous contributions from our alumni and supporters, we can offer bursaries that open doors for talented individuals who may otherwise be unable to afford the exceptional education we provide.

The impact of these bursaries extends far beyond the immediate recipients. By providing financial assistance, we create a diverse and inclusive student body, enriching the educational experience for all. The presence of students from various backgrounds fosters an environment of understanding, empathy, and cultural appreciation. It equips our students with the skills and perspectives necessary to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

In addition to supporting bursaries, the Alumni & Development program invites alumni, parents, and friends of St. Columba’s College to contribute their expertise and resources towards the betterment of our institution. Your involvement can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students.

There are numerous ways to get involved, from providing careers advice and mentoring to offering valuable work experience opportunities. Your guidance and support help our students navigate their future paths, inspiring them to reach their full potential.

Furthermore, your philanthropic contributions play a pivotal role in ensuring that our facilities remain state-of-the-art and conducive to a dynamic learning environment. From technology upgrades to infrastructure improvements, every donation contributes to creating an optimal space for academic and personal growth.

We deeply value the dedication and generosity of our alumni and supporters. Your commitment to St. Columba’s College showcases the enduring bond that unites our community. Together, we can empower the future leaders, innovators, and change-makers who will shape the world for the better.
