Catholic Social Teaching in Prep
Catholic Social Teaching is based on the belief that God has a plan for creation, it involves every aspect of our lives, from the things we pray about, to how we live as a responsible global citizen.
Our part in this story is a kind-of vocation for the common good, a call to treat everyone as our brothers and sisters. It is something that we all share.
The Catholic Church has seven principles of social teaching that we share with our children through all that we do, through the curriculum, special events and activity and through our ordinary actions in school.
In the Prep School we follow the Caritas Westminster programme, ‘Love In Action.’ There is a different focus for each half term and in every Form room there is a CST prayer tree for the children to share their thoughts and prayers linked to the theme.
Michaelmas 1 Focus: Care of Creation
This is about protecting people and the planet. We must consider how our actions can affect the environment and how we can all be good stewards of the Earth.
Michaelmas 2 Focus: Option for the Poor and Vulnerable
This means to help those who need it the most. Due to divisions of the rich and poor, we are called to put the needs of the poor first.
Lent 1 Focus: Solidarity and Peace
We are all one human family. By promoting peace and justice, we can bring the community together and live in unity.
Lent 2 Focus: Community and Participation
This means all people have the right to participate in society and to seek the common good, which means the good for all.
Trinity 1 Focus: Dignity of Workers
All people work in some way because work is more than making a living, it’s participating. Therefore, jobs and pay should be fair for everyone.
Trinity 2 Focus: Human Dignity
We all have dignity because we are created in God’s image.
