During Social Studies at St Columba’s College, we explore the fascinating worlds of Geography and History in the Prep School. Our comprehensive curriculum offers a rich and engaging learning experience for students from Prep 1 to Prep 6.
Throughout their journey, our students delve into a wide range of captivating topics, acquiring knowledge and understanding of various historical periods, civilisations, and geographical landscapes. From forests and woodlands to Vikings, Tudors, World War II, and more, our students develop a deep appreciation for the past and gain valuable insights into the world around them. Alongside classroom learning, we enhance the educational experience through immersive trips to locations such as the Isle of Wight, Duxford, and the River Ver.
Social Studies: Prep
Curriculum Overview
Prep 1
By the end of Prep 1, children will have gained knowledge about Forests and Woodlands, found out key facts on several animals, and identified Seaside features.
Prep 2
By the end of Prep 2, children will have studied the key facts about the Vikings, understood the key facts about Towers, Tunnels and Turrets, and finally studied the key elements of Diving into the Deep.
Prep 3
By the end of Prep 3, children will have gained an understanding of what it was to live like as a Celts and Roman, identified the key features of Rainforests and studied the different types of Weather around the world.
Prep 4
By the end of Prep 4, children will have studied closely what it was like to live like as an Egyptian, learned the key features of Sustainability, and then considered what it would have been living in Tudor times.
Prep 5
By the end of Prep 5, children will understand what it was like to live in the Victorian period, considered landscapes at different Settlements around the world and learned the key features of Coasts.
Prep 6
By the end of Prep 6, children will have gained knowledge about several World War II topics and events, studied the key features of Rivers, undertaken a Fieldwork Study, and looked at how Codebreaking was an important aspect of World War II.
