Regional Qualifier Triumph Propels SCC Team to Nationals
In a stunning display of athleticism and determination, the senior boys cross country squad has clinched their coveted spot in the English Schools National Finals for the second consecutive year. The team’s outstanding performance at the regional qualifier on Saturday, November 10th, has solidified their reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the competitive world of cross country running.
Facing off against formidable teams from Hertfordshire and London, the senior boys showcased their prowess, securing a narrow victory through a series of exceptional individual performances. The latest addition to the squad, Gianleo Stubbs, took victory in the race, as he forged into the lead at half way.
Alex McDonald demonstrated remarkable strength, finishing in 3rd place, while Dillon Smith secured a spot within the top 10, contributing significantly to the team’s overall success. The tension reached its peak at the finish line as Toby Edwards and Owen Dietman vied for the crucial position of the final scorer in the team race. In a display of sheer determination, Dietman crossed the finish line just ahead of Edwards, both athletes pushing themselves to the maximum for their SCC teammates. This impressive performance showcased rapid improvement from the earlier rounds, emphasising the squad’s commitment to excellence.
With their victory at the regional qualifier, the senior boys cross country squad now looks ahead to the English Schools National Finals, set to take place in Woodbridge, Suffolk. The team has three weeks to fine-tune their skills and make the necessary preparations for the prestigious event.
