Exploring Cambridge’s Rich History and Academic Marvels

July 24, 2023/0 Comments/in Home Page, News, Trips, Whole College

On Thursday, July 6th, we had the fantastic opportunity to visit Cambridge, a city full of history and academic prestige. Our first stop was Fitzwilliam College, where we had a guided tour that gave us a glimpse into its academic and social aspects.. It was fascinating to learn about the institution’s heritage and the changes that had taken place since Mrs. Adair’s time there.

After the tour, we made our way to the mathematics buildings, where Mr. Graves shared his stories with us about the ground-breaking discoveries that frequently unfold within the walls. It was inspiring to be near a building where so much research and innovation takes place.

On our journey, we stopped at the Cambridge University Library, a towering building, home to over 8 million books and one of the largest collections in all of Europe! It was here that Mr. Graves gave us a brief history lesson on the true significance of this place, as it is filled to the brim with all the knowledge that has cumulated over the past centuries. This was certainly the highlight of my trip to Cambridge.

Our next destination was the renowned King’s College. As we approached, the sight of the vast grass lawn adjacent to the River Cam greeted us and we couldn’t resist capturing the moment with photographs. Nearby, people enjoyed boat rides basking in the sun. The beautiful surroundings left a lasting impression on us.

Eager to explore further, we ventured into the vibrant streets of Cambridge, following the aroma of chicken through the historic lanes, leading us to a nearby KFC! The delicious meal not only satisfied our hunger but also fuelled our spirits for the adventure ahead.

Next, we set our sights on the Museum of Zoology, where we were assigned the task of selecting two intriguing species to speak about. In my group, we chose the Giant Armadillo and the Proboscis Monkey. The museum provided the perfect conclusion to our exploration of Cambridge, offering us a glimpse into the wonders of the animal kingdom.

As the day drew to a close, we ambled back through the bustling streets of Cambridge, carrying with us unforgettable memories of a great day out.

We would like to thank Mrs. Adair and Mr. Graves, whose guidance and knowledge made our tour of Cambridge both enjoyable and educational.
