Broadening our Pupils’ Horizons
This October Half Term our pupils had the incredible opportunity to embark on many trips across the globe, creating unforgettable memories together.
Educational trips offer pupils the chance to grow their confidence, enhance their learning, build cultural awareness, and of course build friendships outside the classroom. They also provide opportunities that extend far beyond our College, shaping pupils academically and personally.
Here is a brief overview of what our young people got to experience and enjoy during their trip.
Iceland
Our pupils travelled to the Reykjanes Peninsular and experienced Iceland’s largest mud pool and fumaroles, and the Gunnuhver hot springs. Students visited the Hveragerdi Geothermal Centre and the Hellisheidi Geothermal Power Station. They got to see the spectacular landscapes – from volcanoes to tiered waterfalls. It was truly fantastic!
Pompeii
Visiting the famous Roman City choked by the lava and ash eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD79. Students travelled to ancient Herculaneum and Mount Vesuvius, one of the world’s most famous volcanoes. They also visited Naples to adventure through the ‘Underground Naples Experience’, exploring a fascinating series of underground tunnels seeing the ancient world brought to life!
USA Exchange trip
With two of our Brother schools in or near New York, this trip provided students with the chance to visit Monsignor McClancy Memorial High School, New York and St Joseph’s High School in Metuchen, New Jersey. They were hosted by families from St Joe’s, who have a long tradition of excellent American hospitality, and experienced St Joe’s school life as well as home life with their host families. They also had a tour of New York’s famous attractions, which as you can imagine they thoroughly enjoyed.
Bristol
We visited the beautiful, historic city of Bristol, exploring its Art museums and street art. The 2-day trip was a chance for Art students to collect visual references, research famous artists, and sketch the cityscape, including Clifton Bridge and the docks. Students engaged in museums workshops on the city’s slave trade legacy and toured its famous street art sites, inspiring future Banksys!
Porto Football Tour
Our pupils headed to Portugal on a football tour to the internationally acclaimed FC Porto. They had 4 training sessions with FC Porto’s full-time coaching staff at the legendary Constituição Park and Dragon Force satellite centre, 2 matches against the local opposition, and a behind-the-scenes tour of Estádio do Dragão. This trip was amazing for the technical development of our players and one they will never forget.
CCF Stem Competition
Our CCF team got to go on the STEM Challenge at Westdown Camp on Salisbury Plain. They utilised the Army’s advanced STEM technology to demonstrate to cadets how their STEM lessons at school match across the real world. Our 10 cadets competed with 30 of the best CCF cadet teams in the country.
