At St Columba’s College we strive for the highest standards of academic excellence and rigour. Our intent and aspiration is for each individual to achieve their personal best standards. Scholarship is encouraged and celebrated throughout the school at all levels.
Knowledge acquisition in itself is not a singular goal but one to be supported by developing the qualities of intellectual enquiry and acuity. These skills will give our young people the ability to confidently interrogate, verify, challenge, analyse, project and formulate in the increasing complex world of multiple sources of information, digital learning and AI.
We foster a love of learning through the agency of passionate and inspirational teachers who challenge students to step out of their comfort zones, embark on critical thinking, foster creative output, and take charge of their education by independent research and independent learning. The teaching to support this is provided by a blend of classroom approaches and the best features of technological advances. Each student is equipped with a device dedicated to academic pursuit. Equipping our young people with all that is needed for future work and life is a fundamental goal of our educational philosophy.
An individual’s learning is underpinned by a sense of personal, moral, social and cultural understanding which allows them to command how to form right opinions and informed decisions that reflect the highest possible level of academic and personal growth.
The soft skills of collaboration, cooperation, mutual support, and interpersonal skills of communication are interwoven into the academic work and wider educational possibilities undertaken such that they become confident learners, happy to engage with study, and so inherently motivated to achieve and regard challenge as a positive.
Our students’ academic achievement in public examination at GCSE and A-level, given the College ability intake of average and above intelligence, is excellent. The majority of students progress to their universities of choice and embark upon study of diverse range of disciplines.
