Welcome

Welcome to St Columba’s College, a school that prides itself on an education of both the head and the heart. We are committed to excellence in all areas of our College life, from the academic rigour in the classroom through to providing our young people with a wide range of specialist programmes that will enhance and enrich their lives.

From our Prep School through to the Senior School and Sixth Form, a Columban education is instilled in our students – that success lies in academic excellence, achieved through the cultivation of personal attention, supportive discipline and all underpinned by religious values.  We see this clearly reflected in every member of our College community and we are proud of each and every one of our young people. Our pastoral care is excellent and our relationships with each other reflect the core values of the College and its belief that true and exceptional education is holistic.

In a rapidly changing world, we believe that St Columba’s College equips young people with academic standards and values that they need for success and, in recognising the uniqueness of our students, we prepare them to be the leaders of the future.

I very much look forward to welcoming you to St Columba’s College.

Education of the
Head and Heart

Holistic education is a distinctive and important feature of St Columba’s College. We know that participation in a broad range of extracurricular activities and service opportunities is vital for developing the skills and attributes that prepare our students for life after school.

By the time the students reach the Sixth Form they will have learned a lot about themselves and gained a wide range of experiences. Student Formation therefore becomes more student-led and personalized, but we still encourage varied participation and offer students advice and guidance as they prepare themselves for life after school.

  • Academic Excellence

In all subjects and all areas, a culture of personal excellence is fostered and promoted.

  • Pastoral Care

The happiness and wellbeing of our pupils is at the very heart of St Columba’s, our pastoral care is deeply rooted in the compassionate ethos of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart.

  • Extended Curriculum & SHAPE

A set of timetabled weekly activities and opportunities that structure a programme of personal growth for each student.

  • Student Leadership

Students are encouraged though activities to learn new skills, develop their characters and take on leadership roles.

  • Trips & Visits

There are a vast range of trips and visits on offer for all students to broaden their educational understanding.

Prep School

St Columba’s Prep School is a unique and happy place to learn in the heart of St Albans. We are proud of our reputation for high academic achievement with first-rate pastoral care.

With the Columban virtues of Courage, Courtesy and Compassion permeating all that we do, we aim to launch pupils on their individual journeys to becoming well-rounded, socially aware young people who are equipped and confident for twenty-first century society.

Senior School

The Senior School of St Columba’s College is an independent, selective secondary school where students and their families are known and valued, where inspiring teachers challenge every pupil to achieve their own best standard and where the nurturing of character produces fine young adults, ready for the challenges of Sixth Form study.

We are so proud of our students and work closely with parents in a respectful partnership to deliver our vision of a Columban education for the benefit of our young people.

Sixth Form

Our Sixth Form is a thriving ‘College within the College’, where our students become the fine young adults that we are so proud to send out into the world. Here you will find a sanctuary of academic rigour and personal growth; a lively environment in which students can take their place at the head and heart of the school, aspiring to their very highest potential.

Our Sixth Form offers a wide range of subjects, extracurricular experiences and leadership opportunities. Students emerge with skills, qualifications and attributes that make them ready for their next adventure, leaving behind a legacy of character and ambition.
