On Friday 13th February, we held our annual Columban Bake Off. This year our CAFOD team chose the theme ‘sports and hobbies’. We were once again blown away by the incredible entries across the school. There was an extremely high level of creativity and skill across year groups, and all who took part fully embraced the theme. We saw a range of cakes from Rugby themed cakes and Art themed cakes to F1 inspired cakes to fishing cakes. It was extremely difficult for us to choose a winner from all the brilliant entries. But, in the end, we decided that our overall winner was Dennis O’Shea in Lower Sixth with his amazing fishing inspired cake. Coming in 2nd , 3rd and 4th respectively were Armaan Sagheer 5J with the Para Olympics inspired cake, Jack Newbury-Beirne 4G with his Golf inspired cake and Beatrice Lonsdale 1S with her.
The winners of the House Competition were as followed:
Joseph – Anaiya Sagheer
Guertin – Woody Simms
Martin – Jack Davies
Charles – Berina Lee
McClancy – Sean O’Conner
Stanislaus – Lucas Foster
The winner of the best form 1 cake was Thomas Martin and a special mention goes to Sophie Wilkins, Henry Luckhurst and Shiv Panchovi’s group cake
The winner of the best sixth form cake was Lilah Hewit with her Formula 1 inspired cake and a special mention goes to Connor, Charlie and Harriets group cake.
Coupled with the Bake Off over 80 students also took part in the Simple Meal, where they substituted their normal lunch for soup and a roll. The money saved from their meal was then donated to CAFOD. This gave the students the opportunity to give up something small for Lent in order to help others that are less fortunate.
The total raised for CAFOD was £1084.32 – so thank you to our community for all your donations, the money raised will help so many people who are in need.
