Examination Results

St Columba’s College is thrilled to announce another set of exceptional A Level results. The 2025 cohort have exceeded last year’s record breaking figures, increasing the percentage of entries achieving A*-A grades to 43%.

Our GCSE results are equally impressive with 17% of all entries scoring grade 9 and 87% of all students gaining at least one grade 7.

A Level Results 2025

Our top A Level performer gained A*A*A* in Maths, Further Maths and Physics and an A in Chemistry.

Many other students achieved A* and A grades. This superb academic performace will allow them to progress onto a plethora of different fields and subjects areas. These include Architecture, Computer Science, History, Aeronautical Engineering, Philosophy, Geography, Law and Music, to name but a few disciplines. As well as degree courses, we are also proud of those who have secured competitive places on apprenticeship schemes.

Most students were placed their first choice of university including Edinburgh, Birmingham, Nottingham, Durham, Warwick, Exeter, Sheffield, St Andrews and Queen’s University Belfast. 73% of this cohort will attend a Russell Group University.

  • 43% of all grades were awarded at A*-A.
  • 29% gained at least three A grades.
  • 60% gained at least one A grade.
  • 72% of grades at SCC were awarded at A*-B compared with 55% nationally.
  • 91% of grades were at A*-C compared to the national figure of 78%.

GCSE Results 2025

Our GCSE results are, once again, outstanding this year. Our students work very hard and are inspired by their dedicated and supportive teachers.

  • 55% of all results were rated at the top grades of 9-7, bettering the independent school average of 48%.
  • At 17% of all examination entries, SCC figures are more than three times higher than the national average for grade 9s.
  • Three students gained a perfect set of eleven grade 9s and one more gained ten grade 9s and one grade 8.
  • Over 36% of entries were graded at the top grades of 8 or 9.
  • Two thirds of the year group achieved between seven and eleven grades of 9-6.
  • 44% of students had an average grade of 7 or higher across all their subjects.
  • 98% of examinations taken were awarded grades 9-4.

We are also celebrating magnificent GCSE value-added scores. Nine subjects added, on average, a full grade or more per student when compared to their Yellis prediction.

A full seventeen subjects added at least half a grade per student when compared to Yellis prediction.

The average value-added per subject was an impressive 86% of a grade.

2024 A Level Results

Our top A Level performer gained 4 A* grades in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Design Technology, together with an A* in his Extended Project Qualification.

Many other students achieved A* and A grades. This superb academic performace will allow them to progress onto a plethora of different fields and subjects areas. These include Law, Computer Science, Politics, Engineering, Physiotherapy, Theology, Linguistics, Finance and Architecture to name but a few.

74% were placed at their first choice of university including Edinburgh, Liverpool, Nottingham, Durham, University College London, Exeter, Leeds and the University of Texas.

  • 38% of all grades were awarded at A*-A.
  • 37% gained at least two A grades.
  • 59% gained at least one A grade.
  • 73% of grades at SCC were awarded at A*-B compared with 54% nationally.
  • 91% of grades were at A*-C compared to the national figure of 76%.
  • 100% A Level pass rate.

2024 GCSE Results

Our GCSE results are, once again, exceptional this year. This is in no small measure due to the hard work and positive attitude shown by our determined students together with the innovation and commitment to excellence exemplified by our dedicated teaching staff.

58% of all results were rated at the top grades of 9-7. Over the last ten years, we have seen the proportion of these top grades rise by an impressive 47%.

At 16% of all examination entries, SCC figures are more than three times higher than the national average for grade 9s.

Over 36% of entries were graded at the top grades of 8 or 9.

Two thirds of the year group achieved between seven and twelve grades of 9-6.

42% of students had an average grade of 7 or higher across all their subjects with 17% gaining a full set of 7-9s.

96% of examinations taken were awarded grades 9-4.
