Sixth Form St Albans
A Leading Sixth Form in St Albans
At St Columba’s College, our Sixth Form in St Albans offers a blend of academic challenge, personal growth, and genuine community. Students benefit from small classes, expert teachers, and an environment that values integrity as much as success.
Because we are a 4–18 school, our Sixth Form students continue their journey within a familiar and supportive setting. This continuity gives them confidence to take risks, explore ideas, and set ambitious goals for life after school.
Academic Ambition Across Every Subject
Learning in the Sixth Form St Albans community is purposeful and dynamic. Teachers encourage independence through seminars, research projects, and collaborative discussion. As a result, pupils think critically, debate confidently, and express ideas with clarity.
Recent outcomes demonstrate this strength. In 2025, 72 % of A Level grades were A–B*, and 43 % reached A–A*. Many students progressed to Russell Group universities, while others secured apprenticeships at respected employers such as Amazon and PwC.
Personal Support Within a Caring Environment
Academic achievement is only one part of the experience. Our pastoral care system ensures that each student feels known, supported, and encouraged. Tutors, mentors, and counsellors work together to help pupils manage time, balance workloads, and maintain well-being.
Moreover, leadership roles, volunteering, and mentoring younger pupils develop empathy and responsibility. Consequently, our Sixth Formers leave with both confidence and compassion.
Faith, Values, and Character
Although rooted in Catholic tradition, St Columba’s welcomes families of all faiths and none. Our ethos emphasises kindness, reflection, and service. These values run through the entire College, linking Reception pupils to Sixth Formers and uniting the community in shared purpose.
This moral framework helps students see education as more than academic success. They learn to apply knowledge with wisdom and integrity in every context.
Sixth Form St Albans – Preparing for Life Beyond School
The Sixth Form St Albans programme prepares students for university and the wider world. Individual guidance covers UCAS applications, interview practice, and career planning. In addition, enrichment options such as the Extended Project Qualification, enterprise challenges, and work placements help pupils gain independence and initiative.
Consequently, our leavers move forward with the skills, confidence, and curiosity to thrive in any environment.
A Balanced and Enriching Experience
Life in our Sixth Form is lively and varied. Students participate in music, drama, debating, and sport that complement academic study. Furthermore, co-curricular opportunities promote teamwork and leadership, ensuring that learning extends beyond the classroom.
This balance between rigour and creativity is what makes our Sixth Form St Albans experience distinctive.
Admissions and Visiting the College
Applications are welcome from both current pupils and new entrants who share our ethos of ambition and respect. Entry normally requires six GCSEs at grade 6 or higher, including English and Mathematics. However, curiosity, enthusiasm, and drive are equally valued.
Families are warmly invited to visit and experience our environment first-hand. Walking through the campus reveals how students learn, lead, and grow together in a culture of encouragement and achievement.
