St Columba’s College is delighted to announce another set of excellent GCSE results. This stellar academic performance builds on last week’s exceptional A Level results, where 71.1% of entries were graded at A*-B. 16.4% of all GCSE entries achieved the highest grade of 9 and nearly 40% of this cohort gained at least one grade 9. Moreover, 55% of all entries were rated at the top grades of 9-7 which maintains our strong record at this level. As in 2024, a full two thirds of the year group gained between seven and eleven GCSE grades at 9-6. In a year in which the College is celebrating a rating of ‘Outstanding’ in all categories of the Catholic Schools Inspectorate Report, special mention should go to GCSE Religious Studies in which 28% of the year group achieved a grade 9.
Our best overall performers this year were Easa and Louis who each achieved a perfect score of eleven grade 9s. Further acclaim must also go to Kieran, with ten grade 9s and one grade 8, and Joseph, with nine grade 9s and two grade 8s.
All our students have worked extremely hard and applied themselves with determination and integrity to reach their individual potential. Their results could not have been achieved, however, without the unstinting support of their teachers; our enthusiastic staff have worked tirelessly and cultivated strong relationships to give the students the confidence to thrive in their endeavours.
At St Columba’s, we are committed to educational growth and innovation; lessons combine the best of traditional teaching methods with the use of digital devices and this has, once again, generated impressive results.
We are extremely proud of all our learners and anticipate great achievements ahead as many of them continue their studies in our flourishing Sixth Form.
Statistic to celebrate
- 39% achieved at least one grade 9
- 70% achieved at least one grade 8
- 87% achieved at least one grade 7
“I am immensely proud of our GCSE students, whose outstanding results build on last week’s exceptional A Level achievements. What makes this success all the more remarkable is that this cohort began their secondary education during the challenges of the Covid pandemic.
Their resilience, determination and commitment to learning have shone through and today’s results are a testament to their hard work, the dedication of their teachers and the support of their families.
We look forward to seeing so many of them continue their Columban journey into our Sixth Form, where they will undoubtedly go on to achieve even greater things“.
Headmaster, Mr Karl Guest
