Portrait of 'Gifty from Shitima' by OC Huey Glynn-Jones on display at National Portrait Gallery

Whole School Old Columbans

Congratulations to Old Columban Huey Glynn-Jones C16 who entered the 2018  BP Portrait Award competition and whose wonderful portrait of 'Gifty from Shitima'  is currently part of an exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London. Huey has undertaken foundation studies at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, University of the Arts, London, and will begin a degree in art history at the Courtauld Institute of Art later this year.

Huey painted a portrait of  Gifty, a student that he had met at Shitima House, in  Kabwe, Zambia, while volunteering there last year. He formed a strong friendship with Gifty and made some studies of him, before completing this painting on returning to the UK.

The BP Portrait Award is the most prestigious portrait painting competition in the world and represents the very best in contemporary portrait painting.
