The St Albans Schools Book Award

Senior Academic

The St Albans Schools Book Award is a new award established by school librarians in the St Albans area. Three books have been selected for the 2017 shortlist which were chosen from all new fiction books published for children in 2016. The three books are:

A Seven Letter Word by Kim Slater

River of Ink: Genesis by Helen Dennis

A Boy at the Top of the Mountain by John Boyne

Students in participating schools are being asked to read all three books on the shortlist and have the opportunity to attend the Awards Day being held at St Columba’s College on Wednesday 6th December. At the Awards Day, students will discuss the three shortlisted books, take part in activities related to the books and be able to vote for the winner. We are delighted that one of the shortlisted authors, Helen Dennis, will be attending the Awards Day to give a talk to the students.

As well as reading the books students are also invited to enter the two competitions in relation to the book award. One is to design a logo for the award and the other is to create a bookmark based on one or all of the three books. Prizes for the competitions have been kindly donated by Waterstones and Browns Books for Students.
