In Memoriam: Brother Roger (Lucien) Bosse (1941 - 2017)

Columban Community Other

The Brothers of the Sacred Heart are greatly saddened to announce that Brother Roger Bossé sc (formerly Brother Lucien), passed away unexpectedly on September 29, 2017, in Marinilla, Colombia where he was on sabbatical. May he rest in peace.

Born in 1941, Roger was the son of Lucien and Bernadette (Desfosses) Bossé, and brother to Richard and Denise. In 1956, he left Nashua, NH, to enter the Brothers of the Sacred Heart at Pomfret, CT. After professing his first vows in 1960, Roger taught in Brothers’ schools in Lewiston, Maine and Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

In 1967, Roger committed his energies to the Brothers’ mission at St Columba’s College in St. Albans. He would remain in England for the next 28 years – as teacher, community superior, vocations director, and later, Head of the Sixth Form and Head of the Prep School.

In 1995, Brother Roger’s love for the French language would open a new life direction for his life as a translator. For the next 22 years until his death, he placed those skills for simultaneous and written translation at the service of many religious orders.

Outside of this work at the Generalate, Roger became responsible for the Mission Cooperative in England, sharing the work of our communities and ministries across the developing world and seeking assistance from the wider Church.

Roger had been improving his Spanish, and living and ministering with the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in Colombia, South America, when he fell ill. We are grateful for the care and support of the Brothers of the Province of Colombia over Roger’s last days. We offer our deepest sympathies to Brother Roger’s immediate and extended family.

St Columba's College will be hosting a memorial service in memory of Brother Roger, on Saturday 14th October at 11 am, in the School Chapel. Members of the community are cordially invited to this service and, afterwards, to a reception at the Brothers residence, Watling House, on King Harry Lane.
