The week of the 5th of May was a very busy but productive week, raising funds for Project Respond 2017. The long awaited Quiz took place on the evening of the 5th of May. The immense effort and meticulous planning of the two “Project Managers”, Fergus Harris and Christian Martinez, and the support of the rest of the team paid off as the evening turned out to be a huge success. The well-attended (more than a 110 people), fun-filled event was everything it set out to be. The fish and chips went down well, the quiz was challenging, lots of prizes were won as part of the raffle, but above all we raised a considerable amount (£ 1755.77!) of money for a very good cause. We would just like to thank all of the staff, students, their family, friends and Old Columbans that attended. Your input and generosity proved to be invaluable.
On May 6th, at 8:30am, only few hours after the quiz, Mr Brown and a team of students started the first shift of the Bunning’s Sausage Sizzle. Brother Dan, myself and the second team of students took over at 11 am and carried on till 6pm. Br Dan did an amazing job as the head sausage and onion sizzler chef, ensuring the sausages were perfectly cooked to the required 73°C. After a very long and busy day, we were pleased to go home with a healthy profit of £ 374.71.
I would just like to congratulate the Project Respond 2017 team for their remarkable efforts. To date, with two events (Leg waxing and St Albans half marathon parking) still to take place, the Project Respond 2017 team has already raised an amazing £ 4300. The money raised will provide the means and equipment to enhance, and even change, the lives of the children in the facilities we visit in Africa this summer.
