St Columba's County Basketball Success!

Senior School

The culmination of the basketball season was a successful one for SCC!

The U12s claimed the first of what would be three county titles for SCC at the annual U12 rally last week. Basketball success is evident from the history of this trophy with SCC winning it 18 out of the last 20 years!

The other age group finals are played out during a finals week which witnessed some excellent competitive basketball. The U14s were first up against Queens on Monday night. Despite a spirited comeback in the 3rd quarter, Queens defensive pressure saw them to a 63-96 victory. On Wednesday night the stage was set for a fantastic evening with SCC in all three finals. The first game didn’t disappoint with SCC taking an early lead only for Beaumont to come back into it in the 3rd Quarter. A controlled 4th Quarter was the difference with SCC running out winners 88-80. Game 2 was the turn of the U13s who were up against Queens. The oppositions speed in attack was the difference in the two teams and they ran out comfortable winners as SCC emptied the bench in the 4th Quarter to give the whole squad a taste of a county final.

The most anticipated game, because of previous results was the U18 final between SCC & Sandringham, didn’t disappoint! The game was close all the way through with the lead changing hands throughout the 3rd and 4th Quarter. After getting their noses in front in the last minute the SCC boys held their nerve to secure a one-point victory, 71-70.

Once the dust had settle, we reflect on another successful season with three age groups as county champions, two runners up and one semi-finalist. All boys should be credited for their commitment which sees them play matches throughout the first two terms as well as training each morning and during the week.
