The Sixth Form at St Columba’s offers a wide range of educational and extra curricular opportunities for all students. We offer a purely academic curriculum, with our students taking 4 AS level subjects in the first year of study with most moving to 3 subjects at A2. We believe that our focus on A levels benefits the students within our college and gives them a strong basis for which to move on to higher education as the vast majority do, or into full time employment.
As well as our academic focus, the students are offered a considerable range of other opportunities to enable them to develop fully as individuals beyond the classroom environment. These include a range of sports played at local, county and national level, music including choir and orchestra, drama which is performed mainly in conjunction with Loreto girls’ school and public speaking competitions. We also have a flourishing Combined Cadet Force where many of our boys develop leadership and team working skills and a Young Enterprise group who have been extremely successful both locally and regionally.
Our Sixth Form students also have the opportunity to take on leadership roles within the whole school community as prefects, house captains and for a few the roles of deputy and head boy. All these experiences enable our students to develop as well-rounded young men with the ability both to serve and lead.
